Cataract, Glaucoma & Comprehensive Ophthalmologist
Dr Mia Zhang is dedicated to delivering the best cataract, glaucoma, and comprehensive ophthalmology care to all her patients. She completed her ophthalmology training at the prestigious Sydney Eye Hospital, during which she served as Senior Registrar at Royal Prince Alfred and Bankstown Hospitals, honing her skills in cataract surgery and comprehensive general ophthalmology.
She underwent further subspeciality training in Glaucoma and anterior segment surgery as the Senior Glaucoma Fellow at New Zealand’s largest tertiary eye hospital and Auckland University. Gaining expertise across the full spectrum of glaucoma care-including trabeculectomy, tube shunt procedures (Paul and Baerveldt), PreserFlo MicroShunt, iStent, Kahook Dual Blade, and other minimally invasive glaucoma surgeries. She is also highly trained in laser procedures such as SLT, micropulse, and cyclodiode, as well as complex anterior segment and cataract cases.
Dr Mia Zhang offers refractive cataract surgery with premium lenses, including management of complex anterior segment cases. She uses specialised intraocular lenses to deliver outstanding visual outcomes tailored to individual visual and lifestyle needs.
Dr Mia Zhang is passionate about providing cutting edge eye care and evidence-based medicine. In 2025, Dr Zhang was awarded the Vision Research Foundation Scholarship at the Australian and New Zealand Glaucoma Society (ANZGS) conference in 2025. She also received The Australasian Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (AUSCRS) Advanced Trainee Scholarship and presented an abstract on Cataract surgery outcomes on over 750 patients at the AUSCRS conference. Her research is published in respected journals including Survey of Ophthalmology, Investigative Ophthalmology & Visual Science, and Clinical & Experimental Ophthalmology. She has presented at leading national and international conferences including Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists (RANZCO) Annual Scientific Congress, Asia-Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology (APAO) Congress, AUSCRS conference, The Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO) annual meeting, ANZGS conference and the World Glaucoma Congress.
Committed to leadership and wellbeing, Dr Zhang served as Co-Chair of the RANZCO Health and Wellbeing Committee. She currently serves as Chair of the RANZCO Eye2Eye Editorial Board, contributing to professional education and discourse.
Dr Zhang has been a passionate volunteer with Vision of Islands since 2016. This Australian charitable organisation provides specialist ophthalmic services to Pacific Island nations such as Tuvalu and Tonga, where she has participated in numerous missions. Her work has included cataract and pterygium surgery, trauma and laser treatments, full clinic-based care, and the training of local staff-a reflection of her enduring dedication to delivering high-quality sight preserving eye care.
Dr Mia Zhang is fluent in English and Mandarin, she ensures all patients feel understood, informed, and empowered in their care journey.
Outside of medicine, she enjoys painting, bouldering and hiking, and spending quality time with her family-pursuits that keep her balanced and energised.
